My Rocky Mountain Shopping Utopia (myrmu.com) was established in January 2006 by Tom Woodske. The purpose of the website is to supply online links to internet shopping sites. These sites will allow you to purchase anything from a new prop for your boat, to nutritional supplements for your well being, to finding your soul mate on a personals dating site.
A bit about myself and why I decided to build a website;
I retired in the Spring of 2005 after spending 39 years working within the Forest Industry of British Columbia. Needing something to do, I spent three months working as a carpenter's helper building houses, this was great physical exercise as I had spent much of the previous 20 years behind a desk. When Fall came and with it the wet and cold weather, it was time to hang up my hammer. So what do I do now? Why not build a website my inner-self said. To build a website, you need a theme. So after a lot of thought and net surfing I decided what I needed was a site with links to many other sites so I didn't have to continuously search for items I wanted to read or buy.
When I first started to build my website, I didn't realize that there were such things as affiliations to the various websites. Initially I would build links to the websites I wanted on my pages, this was a slow process but, was also very interesting. After I did this for a short period of time, I discovered there was this thing called 'Affiliate Marketing Networks'. As a member of a network, I would have access to many internet publishers to which I could apply to be an affiliate and if accepted, they would supply me with their link code to run on my site.
The benefits to this method is that the link code has id information so if someone accesses a website through my link and buys something, I get a commission on the sale. This sounded like a win / win situation to me but, it's not quite as simple as that. There are millions of websites that work as affiliates therefore, the competition is as fierce as anything that could be imagined. So, to make a long story short, I am not making any money but, the website construction is a fun and interesting challenge.
Website Security is always an ongoing concern, the sites I have linked to are reputable and well established websites. Most sites use Microsoft's SSL4 (Secure Socket Layer technology) protocol with 128 Bit encryption to ensure your data is 100% safe and all customer information is kept with the strictest of confidence. Numerous sites use "McAfee Secure" security scan and are tested and certified daily or Thawte SSL 123 Certificate to offer secure communications by encrypting all data to and from the site. All sites take appropriate steps to ensure data privacy and security, using various hardware and software methodologies.
I designed my website with seven categories in mind, these are categories that I find interesting and I hope that you, the viewer, will also have an interest. Each page has photo's that were taken in and around the Rocky Mountains of B.C. and mixed in with these are family photo's from old to current day.
The Home page which is the News, Sports and Weather page, has the latest Canadian News, US News, General Sports News, Entertainment News, the Weather Network Forecasts, your daily astrology horoscope and a search engine you can use.
The News Videos page has videos covering US News, Environmental News, Sports news, Music News, Entertainment News and Financial Investment News.
